| Welcome
to the Fen Edge Community Association On-line - SPRING/SUMMER 2009
FECA: from the Chairman
The coming months will offer us opportunities and challenges which I really hope that the
people of the Fen Edge will grasp.
Opportunities
On a positive note this year sees the return of the ever popular Family Festival being held on
the village green in Cottenham from the 19th to 21st June. The programme is looking very
exciting and I am quite sure that a great week-end beckons all. Details of all of the activities
can be found on our web site and regular updates will feature in your local newsletters. So
much hard work goes into the event it really deserves all of your support. Helpers as always
are needed and just a couple of hours can make a difference.
Another annual favourite is the Cottenham Fun Run on the 9th May, please come along and
support the runners and stall holders at the supporting market place.
Challenges
This organisation has seen many changes during its existence but perhaps none more
challenging than those it confronts this year. Last year was the final Art Show organised by
Christine Munns and to date no one has come forward to take her place.
This summer Geoff Redhead retires from his post of Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator, I will
leave it to others to remind us all of his enormous contribution through 35 years of service
both in this post and as a teacher. However it is as a member of this association that I
sincerely offer him our profound thanks for his tireless energy and help in promoting so many
events over the years. I am quite sure that he and Brenda will continue to assist us post his
retirement and offer them both my sincere thanks on behalf of the Association for a long and
contented retirement.
Geoff’s departure leaves us with yet another problem, it is vital that the Fen Edge News
continues and we urgently need help to ensure that it does. Associations such as ours depend very heavily on volunteers and whilst I have made mention of this on numerous
occasions it is now more vital than ever. The simple fact is that without more people coming
forward to help run this association and its supporting events they are in danger of
disappearing to the disappointment of so many. Our Annual General Meeting is on the 20th
April at Cottenham Village College and I would extend a warm welcome to all to come and
hear what we are all about. Currently there is a real possibility that the Art Show, concerts
etc will not happen, I really am determined that they will but need help. I am available to
discuss either directly on 01954 250061 or email at chairman@fenedge.co.uk
