Creating unusual Christmas cards, with Crafty Chicks at the Cottenham Community Centre – 17th October 7-9pm
The Cambridge Open Art Exhibition at Swavesey Village College is on Friday 12th to Sunday 14th October 2018. With something for everyone – traditional and contemporary paintings, sculpture and prints, crafts and cards to buy, creative activities for children and a ‘Win-A-Picture’.
The Preview Evening takes place on Friday 12th October from 6.30pm to 9pm – tickets are £5 on the door. Come and enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles and mingle with this year’s exhibition artists.
Entry to the Exhibition is free on Saturday 13th October 10am to 5pm and Sunday 14th October 10am to 4pm. Why not join us for a great day out – have a coffee or lunch at the cafe – filled rolls and homemade cakes. There will be art activities for children and artists’ tables to buy cards and small gifts and the added advantage of affordable art to buy. There is ample FREE PARKING. Get away from the crowded city and enjoy a relaxing time out at the exhibition.
This is a local community project which supports charities. The Exhibition aims to support local artists and therefore all artwork is sold commission free. Although this is a non-selective exhibition open to anyone over 18, we are always impressed by the high standard of work received and this year is no exception.
All proceeds from the cafe are going to the Johabeto Orphanage in Kitale, Kenya
Your chance to win one of the exhibition artworks up to the value of £150 with draw donations to local charity Headway Cambridgeshire. Choose your favourite artwork, fill out the form, make a donation to Headway Cambridgeshire and you could take home an original artwork (to the value of £150). The Draw will take place at 3pm on Sunday 14th October 2018.
Willingham Beer Festival 2018 will be held at Willingham Social Club as part of the village’s Feast week on Friday 28th September (5pm – 11pm) and Saturday 29th September (Midday – 11pm)
Willingham Action Group, Willingham Social Club and Elgoods Brewery have been working closely to provide a large range of excellent real ales, ciders and low alcohol beers. Approximately 20 cask and keg beers, (some local, some not) have been carefully selected by our committee who, having been on a brewery tour, are well informed! They have selected beers from different breweries, uniquely crafted to provide a variety of styles. Watergull Orchards will be providing the Beer Festival with a selection of their delicious ciders. They produce over 10 different varieties of cider and have limited editions available from time to time as well. Low alcohol beers will be available from various breweries from Sweden to Suffolk, with many that are hard to differentiate from the alcoholic versions. These are perfect at 0.0% to 0.5% ABV for the health conscious and designated drivers.
We are immensely grateful and pleased to welcome The Porterhouse, who will be attending with their own bar, serving speciality gins and mixers from their popular Gin Club. In true community spirit, they are donating all of the proceeds from their gin bar to the fund. And of course, the Social Club bar will be open serving a full array of drinks and snacks.
A Waller & Son Butchers, (local resident, Richard Welton, is the proprietor) will be providing a quality barbecue and homemade pies made with Milton Brewery Real Ale. Other caterers will be attending.
There will be some great music too including solo guitarist/vocalists… Simon Benefer, Jess Orestano, Harri Beasley and Jodie Richardson. Also The Lightwaves (a guitar/ukele duo) and Alex Dann a jazz pianist.
Everyone working at the beer festival is a volunteer and has not necessarily worked behind a bar before, so thank you to them in advance. If you would like to help out we would love to hear from you. Children are welcome to attend until 9pm and well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outside marquee.
The Beer Festival is primarily raising funds for disabled toilet facilities and a new climate control system at Willingham Social Club. Willingham Action Group will also receive some of the proceeds to assist with their good work within the village. Both WSC and WAG are not for profit organisations. The entire event is run by the village, for the benefit of the village! Follow us at www.willinghambeerfestival.co.uk and on Facebook and Instagram.
Willingham Social Club is a not-for-profit organisation which is proud and privileged to support many of our village groups who use our facilities on a regular basis.
Willingham Action Group is a volunteer community group that exists to improve the quality of life for the residents of the village.
We would like to thank Highgate Country Store and Butchery for being our main sponsor for this event and A R Aspinall & Sons Ltd for the glass sponsorship and the many barrel sponsors who we are proud to feature on our Facebook page and website.
