Crazy Crafty Chicks workshop – Christmas Wreaths – November 21

With Christmas fast approaching, Crazy Crafty Chicks November workshop is to create a gorgeous little house Christmas wreath complete with fairy lights.

They will be recycling xmas swags for the greenery, and using twigs, beech nuts, pine cones and any other natural materials to decorate the wreath. There will be a selection of red berries, gold stars, bows and beads – all to add that lovely touch of colour and complement the green. For a twist there will be springy coiled wire and stars to add movement to your wreath.

There is a choice of a cute little house which can be lit up with the fairy lights or a sweet wooden sign on which you can etch your Christmas message and decorate separately.

We hope you will be able to join us for a relaxing Christmas crafting evening.

Landbeach Tithe Barn Trust awarded £12k

Tithe Barn Trust awarded £12k

The Tithe Barn Trust is delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded grants of £6,000 from the Architectural Heritage Fund and another £6,000 in match funding by the Pilgrim Trust.

Gemma O’Shea, Chair of Trustees, says “This is fantastic news and means a lot to the Tithe Barn Trust, as we’re a small charity and not-for profit volunteer group committed to saving the unique Tithe Barn, in Landbeach near Cambridge, for everyone to enjoy. We’re going to use these grants to appoint a Fundraiser and Business Case Developer. This essential funding will be the enabler we need to help us reach our target of £260,000 to restore the special Grade II listed timber-framed Tithe Barn. The public have been incredibly generous and donated over £60,000 already, but we still need to raise more. Our thanks go to the Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) and the Pilgrim Trust.”

The AHF is a charity working to promote the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings for the benefit of communities across the UK. The Pilgrim Trust aims to preserve and promote Britain’s historical and intellectual assets and to provide assistance to vulnerable members of society.

Tithe Barns are increasingly rare in the UK and this is the only remaining one in Cambridgeshire in its original condition with thatched roof, timber frame, timber granary and brick threshing floor. Experts believe the barn dates to the medieval period.

Sadly the barn is in a state of disrepair and unless we act now we could lose this national treasure.

Arthur Rank House Hospice Charity – Bridge the Gap

Bridge the Gap will take a walk on the wild side this year, with the University of Cambridge’s Museum of Zoology

Bridge the Gap charity walk sponsored by Cambridge Building Society, was launched at Emmanuel College last night. The College is one of six highlights which will be featured on the famed annual walk on Sunday 9 September.

In its 17th year, Bridge the Gap starts from Parker’s Piece and will additionally meander through Christ’s College, Sidney Sussex College, St Catharine’s College and Pembroke College as well as pausing for walkers to enjoy an eagerly anticipated opportunity to see inside the Museum of Zoology. The addition of this captivating museum will be a real highlight for walkers, as they stroll the route, with the Society of Cambridge Tourist Guides also on hand throughout with further information about their stunning grounds and features.

Peter Burrows, Finance Director at Cambridge Building Society – which this year celebrates a decade of helping fund and organise the event – comments: “Bridge the Gap not only gives an opportunity to explore the Colleges, that those who live here might take for granted, but it raises much needed funds for two local charities whose valuable work really does make a difference to people’s lives.”

Neil Perry, Chief Executive of Romsey Mill, adds: “Every one of the 2000 walkers who takes part is helping others in a very real and practical sense: they are partnering with Romsey Mill and Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, and helping us in our respective work to support people in our own communities who are going through some really tough times.”
