Waterbeach Feast Saturday 9th June 2018

Waterbeach Community Association are once again organising the Waterbeach Feast on Saturday 9th June.

This annual event starts with a grand parade of floats around the village, mostly entered by local groups and organisations. The afternoon entertainment then continues with a variety of stalls and side shows on the Village Green and some exciting events and displays in the arena. Feast Day is always a wonderful village event with everyone turning out to make it enjoyable for both villagers and visitors.

Waterbeach Feast 2018The theme is “Something beginning with L …

Once again it’s time to put on those thinking caps and come up with ideas to decorate your stalls and float for Feast Day. This year’s theme will be ‘Something beginning with L …….’ The parade will leave the school as usual at 2pm and make its procession around the village. We’re hoping to see many floats, walking groups and individuals to make a spectacular and colourful parade.

Feast Parade

The parade is FREE to enter – there are four categories: Infant, Junior, Adult and Friends & Family – and it is open to groups, clubs, families and individuals. Just dress up and join in the fun. You can find all the forms needed to join in the activities on the Waterbeach Feast website

Visit the Waterbeach Feast Facebook page for the latest information

To ensure the success of the Feast Day we need your help. We need assistance in the organisation of the day and to help set up in the morning and clear away at the end of day. We also need people to volunteer to be marshals and walk alongside the parade as it makes its procession around the village. If you would like to help please contact Jacqui Rabbett on 01223 860993

How to find the Tithe Barn
Gate entrance is opposite No 2 Waterbeach Road, Landbeach, Cambridge, CB25 9FA. Walk along the grassed track by the hedge. Free road parking or no.9 stagecoach bus stops near Cockfen Lane.

The Landbeach Tithe Barn Trust believes the medieval Tithe barn, with thatched roof, brick threshing floor and timber granary, to be unique to Cambridgeshire and even of national significance. It is one of the few Tithe Barns in the country still standing next to its medieval rectory. Over 90% of Tithe Barns in the UK have been converted and their historic features are being lost forever. Sadly, the Landbeach Tithe Barn is in a poor condition and deteriorating.

You can help our restoration quest by sponsoring a sheaf for as little as £5 at www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/TitheBarnTrust

You can follow the Tithe Barn Trust on Twitter @TBarnT , or Instagram @tithebarntrust , like us on Facebook FriendsofLandbeachTitheBarn or visit www.tithebarntrust.org.uk to find out more about the Tithe Barn Trust and our events.

Waterbeach Waste Incinerator – Public meetings

Waterbeach Waste Incinerator – Amey is proposing to develop a new waste treatment facility at its Waterbeach Waste Management Park in Cambridgeshire.

A planning application has been submitted for the proposed facility, which would use waste from households and businesses to create electricity, heat or a mix of both – generating enough electricity to power the equivalent of 63,000 homes.

It would signify a £200million investment by Amey at Waterbeach, as well as create over 300 jobs during construction and operational phases.

Waterbeach Waste IncineratorAmey will be holding information sessions for local residents on March 19 and 20 in Landbeach, Cottenham and Waterbeach. You can meet the Amey team to answer your questions and find out more about the proposals to create energy from waste. The drop-in sessions will take place on:

Landbeach – Monday 19 March, 12pm-4pm at Landbeach Village Hall, Green End, Landbeach, CB25 9FD

Cottenham – Monday 19 March, 5.30pm-9pm at the Coffee Shop, Cottenham Community Centre, High Street, Cottenham, CB24 8RZ

Waterbeach – Tuesday 20 March, 12pm-9pm at the Church Room, St John’s Church, Station Road, Waterbeach, Cambridge, CB25 9HR

There’s no need to register to attend, just drop by. The three events give residents an opportunity to meet the Amey team and directly ask any questions they have about their proposals.

In addition to the above events, a public meeting is also being held in Waterbeach on 20 March organised by Cambridge Without Incineration a group to bring people together who are concerned about the waste incinerator plan submitted by Amey for the Cambridge area.

Cottenham Village College supports Landbeach Tithe Barn

Have you spotted the sheaf of longstraw yet? As part of their ‘Sponsor a Sheaf’ campaign, the Landbeach Tithe Barn Trust, a small charity and volunteer not-for profit group, are sending a sheaf of longstraw to different locations around Cambridgeshire until they raise enough to re-thatch and restore the Tithe Barn in Landbeach, near Cambridge.

This week Cottenham Village College students and staff showed their support for the Lanbeach Tithe Barn project. Helen Cassady, Cottenham Village College Principal, says “I believe the Landbeach Tithe Barn is an important part of our local history. We are proud to support the project and to look forward to experiencing the barn in its former medieval glory.”

The Tithe Barn Trust aims to save and sympathetically restore the Grade II Listed Tithe Barn for everyone to enjoy, but we need you to help us. We estimate we’ll need 5 tonnes of locally sourced hand drawn Longstraw to rethatch the roof. The public can help by sponsoring a sheaf for as little as £5

The Tithe Barn Trust believes the medieval Tithe barn, with thatched roof, brick threshing floor and timber granary, to be unique to Cambridgeshire and even of national significance. It is one of the few Tithe Barns in the country still standing next to its medieval rectory. Over 90% of Tithe Barns in the UK have been converted and their historic features are being lost forever. Sadly, the Landbeach Tithe Barn is in a poor condition and deteriorating.

Key to the Tithe Barn Trust’s charitable aim is maximising public access to the Tithe Barn, once restored, and education. We want to ensure that the Tithe Barn has a vibrant and sustainable future.

On Saturday 10th February from 10am – 1pm volunteer and get active and involved at our ‘Outdoor gym’ and help us tidy the hedge and grass track to the Tithe Barn. The barn will be open to visit too.

Pencil Sunday 8 April in your diary too for our ‘I-Spy the barn’s wildlife & Grow your own’ event from 2pm – 5pm. Families can spot the barn’s wildlife and claim a prize. Then sow seeds to take home and grow your own veg for our July competition.

Follow the Tithe Barn Trust on Twitter @TBarnT and like us on Facebook to keep updated about our events and to find out where the sheaf of longstraw will be next week.
