| Welcome
to the Fen Edge Community Association On-line - SPRING / SUMMER 2008
FECA: from the Chairman
In the New Year edition I wrote about our hopes to initiate an increase in the arts activities
within the patch and am delighted that we have managed to get a festival “off the ground” in
Rampton.
It will be known as the “Fen Edge Festival of the Arts” and takes place from the 18th to 20th
July this summer. The villagers of Rampton are already working on a number of exciting
projects in support of this and I really hope that during the next few months it will gain
support from the many organisations and skills within the Fen Edge villages. Details of the
events are posted on our web site and regularly updated. Needless to say any input on
ideas, projects help etc would be warmly welcomed by the as yet small committee. Please
get involved.
There is a real appetite for arts within the patch and the success of the 2008 “Textiles in
Focus” exhibition clearly underlines this. It attracted over a 1000 visitors this year and our
thanks must go to Pauline Verrinder and her army of volunteers for maintaining such a high
standard for this innovative show.
On June 6th we will be presenting “Umdumo Wesizwe” in concert at Cottenham Village
College, these are a group of young men from Zimbabwe singing in the style of the
Ladysmith Black Mumbazo. Their renditions of Afro Pop, Jazz and Reggae using only the
musical energy of their voices will surely entice people of all ages. Tickets are available from
CVC Community Office.
We are intending to present regular concerts within the patch but can only do so with your
support.
Unfortunately technology cannot yet predict with any accuracy long term weather forecasts
but I do know that the outdoor swimming pool in Cottenham is hoping for a better summer
than last. It is a great facility for the patch and needs all the support we can give it.
Continued thanks to Mike Smith and his team who are busy organising the Fun Run on the
10th May, Supper Dance on the 21st June and of course the Autumn Show.
Our thanks to all of the volunteers within the patch for their continued support in so many
areas, all of which bring so much pleasure to so many.
We are holding our Annual General Meeting on the 21st April, for which I would extend an
open invitation to one and all to come along and join us. It is always an interesting event and
I am sure that with you being there it will be even sweeter!
We seek to benefit the communities of Waterbeach, Willingham, Rampton, Landbeach and
Cottenham to improve the social, leisure and recreational facilities for all. Benefits of
membership include grant aid, subsidised room hire at CVC, mini bus and of course free,
yes free advertising in this publication and the web site.
