Landbeach’s ‘Local’ in danger

Use it or lose it – that’s the message from Bill Dixon, the chair of the Landbeach Sports and Social Club known as the Old Forge. It’s been going since 1983 and is one of the longest-running organisations in the village.

“It’s the only totally inclusive place in Landbeach where all members of the community can meet for a drink or a chat from Friday to Sunday,” he says.

The problem is that there are not enough people taking advantage of this social facility which is in the centre of the village, next to the Village Hall. It offers real ale as well as soft drinks, sport on TV and occasional dart matches usually held on weekdays (Monday to Thursday). Because it is a non-profit organisation the drinks at The Old Forge are less expensive than local pubs.

Non-members can try before they sign up: three visits are allowed before you become a member which costs £5 (renewal £3). Opening times are Friday 5.30 – 11-30, Saturday noon to 3pm and 7.30 to 11pm, Sunday noon to 3pm.

See the Old Forge website to find out more or just go along and see who’s there. Pictures show the Old Forge committee members and Nina, barmaid and secretary, pulling a pint.
