It is that time of year again, too much darkness and not enough daylight although up until recently we have really enjoyed lots of late sunshine which has played havoc with our plants, birds do not seem to know what season it is with recent reports of blue tits seen feeding young.
However the season of goodwill is upon us with so much going on in the patch villages, it is a reflection on the kindness of people with so many giving up their time to organise the various events and of course the patrons who support them. It would be nice if we could organise more Saturdays for the month of December for with just the four so often events clash with each other.
Next year beckons and with the Queens Jubilee and Olympics it surely is going to be a year to remember for most of us. I am sure that there will be many events being organised to celebrate one or perhaps both of these and we would love to hear from the organisers about them. Jo Bigger continues to bring technology to FECA, together with an excellent web site we now have a Facebook page and quite a few followers all of which allows us to promote and create awareness of what’s going on here in the patch. Any item that you wish to “post” onto this should be sent to either Jo or me via email as follows - chairman@fenedge.co.uk and jo.bigger@gmail.com
In addition we an excellent electronic newsletter published and distributed to those of you who have signed up via our web site. This really is a zero cost effective way of reaching out to the people of the Fen patch and of course a little wider via the World Wide Web. We are all so used to using the www address that sometimes I certainly forget that it can be accessed throughout the world. A sobering thought in the dark of our winter. You can of course sign up for this via our site which can be accessed (here!) at www.fenedge.co.uk
All of these electronic communications allows us easy communications with each other and we would very much like to hear from you any suggestions or ideas that you might have to enhance or improve the lives of the catchment area of the patch. Some of our neighbours might not have access to the internet, why not take time to chat to them and hear their ideas and forward them on to us.
One of the benefits of membership of our association is grant aid to both fledgling and established clubs and societies within our area. Other benefits include reduced room hire charges at Cottenham Village College, use of their mini buses subject to approved drivers and a small mileage charge. Not least of all free articles in this publication. We reach out to over 6800 households in the patch area together with placements in local libraries, gyms etc.
We seek to benefit the communities of Waterbeach, Rampton, Willingham, Landbeach and Cottenham to improve the social, leisure and recreational facilities for all. My thanks to all of the volunteers within our patch for their continuing support, without them so many things would simply not happen.
