Singing in Cottenham and Landbeach

Jan Payne, a highly respected local musician, teacher and choir leader, is making singing fun in two different groups in the Fen Edge.

Her newest one is Sing to Remember (which started in December 2015) for people with dementia and their carers. Though much detail of the past disappears through memory loss, often the words of songs learnt at a young age remain. Jan, at the keyboard, encourages all to join in a hearty sing which, as we all know, makes you feel good.

Thanks to funding from FECA, the group meets weekly on Thursdays at Landbeach Baptist Church, with tea and biscuits at 11.15am followed by singing from 11.30-12.30. If you would like to come along to the group, or if you think you could spare a couple of hours now and again on a Thursday morning to join a team of volunteers, please contact the Community Development Officer, Care Network on 01954 211919 or by email to SouthCambsCD@care-network.org.uk

The first group which Jan runs on behalf of the Care Network is now in its second year. Singing for Fun meets in term time at the Salvation Army Barn, High Street, Cottenham on Thursdays from 1.45 to 3.15pm. The picture shows the group of men and women singing at their 1st birthday party last year. You don’t need to be a trained or experienced singer nor read music – just come along. Word sheets are provided but soon you’ll find that the songs you remember from yesterday will come flooding back. Contact Pam Lumsden on 01954 251371 for more information.
